Blog Comments

Today we looked at blog comments. We have been looking at synthesizing in class and saw a connection between good comments and synthesizing. We decided that a good comment uses information from the text and what the reader already knows to create something new. This means starting a conversation in the comments.

We created this rubric to help us:

Palmerston North 3D Model

For inquiry we had to make the square, Palmerston North, using 3D models for the buildings.
We had to have certain skills to complete this task
- make 3D nets
- scale
- building 3D shapes
- measurement
symmetry
- tabs
We also had to make sure that 1 story was 2cm high and a 2 story 4cm high.
These are some photos of how it turned out:

Chocolate Bar Challenge

Here is this weeks chocolate bar challenge!

Extravagant Ellie and Thrifty Tanya each have bank accounts. Ellie has $500 and Tanya has $200. Ellie withdraws $15 each weekend while Tanya deposits $12. At the end of 13 weeks, what is the difference in their bank accounts? Solve this algebraically. Can you find a week when there is only a $3 difference? Hint: It is before the 13th week.

First to post a comment with the correct working wins!

Chocolate Bar Challenge

Ever Heard of Happy Numbers??
This Chocolate Bar Challenge is tricky maths problem. Be the first to prove that 383 is a happy number. When I say prove that doesn't mean find it on a website but rather use your working to prove it. for example:
7 is a happy number because:
72 = 49
42 + 92 = 97
92 + 72 = 130
12 + 32 + 02 = 10
12 + 02 = 1.

Find out more about happy numbers on Wikipedia or on this forum

post your answer as a comment here.
Remember you don't need to be in the 8gigs to be a winner.

School work!!

Heres some fabulas writing that Isaiah from room 8 has written!

All of a sudden I came steaming in to bowl. I whipped the 142g ball down the pitch. The batsmen wafted at the ball. It came back into him and went straight under his bat. A second later the ball hit the stumps. The bails went flying. The stumps came crashing down. I swung my arm wildly in the air. I jumped with delight. I had just picked up my team’s first wicket after a long streak being wicketless.

our class room work!

Here is a great story Jackson from room 8 has written!!

my first motorbike ride

The clock ticked, the toilet flushed, my cousin came back with Al. The tension was heavy, then I went to put on the protection items. Boots, jacket, helmet, pants, and gloves. A light bulb burns out and the door creeks. I am ready I go to the machine. Al goes on first then I prepare. I get told what to do it seems unstable but when we start i hang onto the handles I am nervous we leave the smooth drive way and start on the street. I open my eyes we are going we reach a intersection. When we turn Al gives the motorbike the beans. Here we go up a road down an avenue. How beautiful Whanganui is. Down Victoria Street past the shops and restaurants in the traffic. I start to grin. I look around at the square pakeha and maori teenagers point at me and look astonished. Soon the traffic thins out I look and another motorbike zooms past the passenger waves at me i wave back. The sun is shinning the birds are cheeping and the reflections of the river amaze me. The shing is like a thousand guns shooting in perfect sync. This is what i feel when i ride the bike. The kerb comes closer i lean with Al through the corner we arrive back at the flat. My Mum clapping it is the first time and not the last i will ride a motor bike. I go inside take off my gloves then the helmet, boots, trousers, and jacket the toilet flushes the clock ticks its time for my sister .

RUGBY WORLD CUP!!!

>

Today the rugby world cup came to Ross Intermediate. Our class was one of many to take a photo with the silver and gold plated trophy. Here are some cool facts. The trophy has little details on it like a pineapple on the top and lizards and snakes on the bottom. The cup is 80 YEARS OLD!!!!! New zealand was the first country to win the cup of course! it was purchased by a jewelry shop a long time ago. And NO ONE is allowed to touch the cup or it will get scratched and dented. What did you think of the cup any wonderings? I wonder how many times New Zealand won the cup. If you have a wondering send a comment and we will try to get it on the blog!
